Security Surveys Our
security surveys ensure that any commercial facility, office or
business is adequately protected from risk, while maintaining the
necessary degree of openness and accessibility needed by
customers. We can provide recommendations to improve entrance
and egress, implement video and security monitoring systems and even
train security personnel.
"Portugal
and Spain"
Following
meetings with our client, a CTC
officer visited facilities used in Portugal and Spain
in an effort to improve security procedures for the handling of
cosmetic goods purchased in Europe and exported to the US.
Procedures for purchasing, shipping, warehousing, labeling,
decoding and communications were reviewed at many locations.
Suggestions for improving security were made and procedural
changes were outlined.
The circumstances of a recent shipment diversion were discussed at
length, and recommendations were made to assure that similar
occurrences can be avoided in the future.
The possibilities and advantages of setting up a distribution
operation in Morocco were discussed, and plans were outlined to survey the
client's facilities in the US.
"Transshipment
of Merchandise Feasibility Analysis" Our client purchases merchandise in Europe.
The
client must then
move the merchandise from Europe and re-package it prior to its arrival in
the US. Our
client seeks a third country, outside
of Europe, with a favorable
regulatory and security environment to accomplish this task.
As a collateral goal, our client would like to develop additional
sources to purchase merchandise through the creation of a "licensed
distributorship" in Morocco. CTC personnel met with various
shipping and warehousing companies, and found the one that
was a perfect match for our client and his needs, and
assisted with locating potential sources for his
distributorship.
Risk Analysis CTC
is an expert in providing the kind of general background information
that allows a company to operate securely and efficiently in an
unfamiliar environment where economic, political, criminal or
insurgent forces could adversely affect operations.
"Colombia:
Years of Freefall" Our
client was interested in conducting business in Colombia. Our initial report provided information
about the two leading groups of insurgents, the ELN and the
FARC, along with historical background on the decades of
warfare and the longstanding regional drug problems.
"Colombia:
Background Situation Report" Our second report focused
more closely on current and future stability in Colombia. It addressed threat trends from the
guerrillas, the narcotics faction, and the criminal element,
and provided intelligence on key political and economic
concerns.
"Algeria:
The Assassination of Mohammed Boudiaf" The
attack on Algeria's Head of State, Mohammed Boudiaf, was the
Arab World's most dramatic political killing since Egyptian
president Anwar Sadat was assassinated in 1981. CTC
was tasked to monitor the situation and report on the
country's stability for a client with established business
interests in the area.
"Algeria:
Assassination Update" The capital city of Algiers as
well as the rest of the country appear to be in a state of uneasy calm
in the days following the assassination. The nation has entered
a seven-day period of mourning and the normally crowded streets are
nearly deserted. Algerian Defense Minister Khaled Nezzar has
appointed a successor to Boudiaf, prominent war veteran Ali Kafi.
"Algeria:
One Week After the Assassination" One week
later, the new government seems to be firmly in control, but the
Islamic fundamentalists behind the assassination have vowed not to
rest until they have established an Islamic state in Algeria. A
committee has been formed to investigate the assassination and will
produce a preliminary report within three weeks.
"Moscow
Crime and Safety Assessment" A
client asked CTC for a "quick and dirty" risk assessment
regarding Moscow. The client's family member planned to travel
extensively there and
the client required a risk analysis report with detailed security
recommendations.
"Ethiopia:
Forecast for the Future" CTC was tasked with writing
an assessment report about the fall of communism and the
prospects for foreign investment opportunities in this newly
liberated country.
"Ethiopia:
Situation Report One" Several months later, CTC
was asked to return to Ethiopia for a report summarizing the
current political situation and an assessment of how the new
government was progressing. We provided a
section-by-section analysis of the Prime Minister's Draft
Economic Policy of the Transitional Government of Ethiopia
and detailed information about the risks involved in starting a
private enterprise there.
"Ethiopia:
Situation Report Two" Sixteen months after Report
One, CTC again
returned to Ethiopia for the first in a series of three consecutive
monthly assessment reports. This first report focused on the
risks involved in traveling to the region, the relief activities that
were being conducted, and the political and diplomatic developments
occurring with the recent university student protests.
"Ethiopia:
Situation Report Three" This
second of three monthly reports reviewed the current security situation of the region,
analyzed the over three hundred new foreign industry
start-ups, and mentioned the recent sale of Ethiopian Navy
ships to the private sector.
"Ethiopia:
Situation Report Four" Our third report focused
mainly on the country's rapidly eroding security
infrastructure. Ethiopia's first free election was postponed, the
government and rebel forces were again fighting, and several
airplane hijacking attempts occurred.
"Northern
Somalia Briefing Paper" This
preliminary report provided the historical background and context
giving rise to the rebirth of the Republic of
Somaliland.
"Supplement
to Northern Somalia Briefing Paper" Once
the background had been described in our preliminary report, we then
focused on the security situation, including the presence of relief
ships that were unable to dock due to the relentless
warfare.
"Somalia:
Situation Report One" Several
months later, a tentative cease fire had occurred. We reported
on the various ethnic factions forming a unified political group, the
creation of a cabinet to write a new constitution, and the increasing
level of lawlessness in the western part of Northern Somalia.
"Somalia:
Situation Report Two" For
this report, CTC arranged a meeting between our source and
the Minister of Mining and Water, to obtain an oil
concession for our client at a time when no concessions were
thought to be available. Target contacts were provided
by CTC, which streamlined the process and increased the
bottom line of our client's company.
Oil Exploration Analysis Reports A
large corporate client was interested in a series of reports analyzing
the strengths and weaknesses of various potential oil drilling
locations in China. They also requested CTC keep them abreast of
the political upheavals occurring at the time in Angola, including analysis on how the changes would affect
the oil industry at large.
"China
Offshore Oil Exploration" This report
provided background information on
oil prospects in the Senkaku Islands, at a time when the islands' ownership was in
fierce dispute by the governments of Japan and China.
We also included information on the history of the region, the
political maneuverings occurring to gain control of the islands,
regional flavor describing how the two countries generally conduct
business and information about the other corporate players also
potentially interested in the oil rights of the area.
"China
/ Tarim Basin Prospecting" The
client
also requested the same type of report for a second China location, an
on-shore area known as the Tarim Basin. We provided information
on the other companies also interested in prospecting the region, as
well as the potential difficulties that could be encountered in
transporting the oil.
"China
/ Tarim Basin Prospecting, Part Two" One month later,
CTC provided a follow-up report with detailed information on the
leading drilling rights bidders, China's recent revamp of its
petroleum industry, information about China's first oil futures
exchange and general information regarding the political
climate.
"Angola:
Situation Report One" The client wanted information
regarding the warfare between the Angolan government and a rebel
force, with emphasis on how the struggle could adversely affect the
oil drilling in the area. We provided up-to-the-minute accounts
of the government's recapture of Soyo, the main supply base of the oil
industry previously held by the rebels for several months, as well as
intelligence regarding the potential battle looming for nearby Huambo.
"Angola:
Situation Report Two"
Ten days later, we provided a follow-up report outlining the
current military situation, the attempts to broker a cease fire, and
statements from the leading oil exporters regarding warfare's
effect on exportation.
